Sussex County Bowls Finals 2022

There was double delight for Spartan & Lakeside bowlers following a successful County finals played at Worthing Pavilion.The weather was great & there was some great bowls played.

There was team success in the Abergavenny Cup with & convincing 41-24 win in the double fours & individual glory for Martin Heitzman in the Champion of Champions singles.

Spartan & Lakeside went into the final of the double fours against Preston as defending champions. Both rinks made a steady start & quickly established an early advantage.

The rink of Phil Saunders, Dave Shorey,Trevor Logan & skip Kenny Bolton opened up a 9-1 lead  following some excellent drawing shots & maintained the advantage throughout the match & ran out comfortable winners by 23-11.

The other Spartan & Lakeside rink of Ray Hodd,John Ruff,Lee Dickson & skip Rob Morphett again made a promising start to lead by 9-3.Preston responded & reduced the arrears to 12-13 before Morphetts rink increased there lead & ran out 18-13 winners.

Martin Heitzman made a steady start against home favourite Mark Strong. The scores were level at 7-7 during the early part of the match. Strong then opened up a 15-11 lead . Heitzman then found the length & line of the green to respond with a run of 10 shots without reply to gain a deserved victory by 21-15.
